When was the last time in your life you had time to wait for the sun to rise? Or the last time you had time to admire nature amidst your concrete jungle? When did you last have time to feel that heady early morning chill in the air? Time. What a precious and elusive commodity. As the lockdown sent us scurrying into our homes, it also gave us the gift of time. Time to actually stop and smell the roses. Time to think and be. And this time shall never come back again.

Where are those early morning walkers? Those shy, elbow-nudging lovers? Those old besties who would bring tea in a thermos? The book-lover? The blogger who would come only for the ‘golden-hour selfie’? The trees have nothng to see anymore and nothing to gossip about. Nothing but two empty seats.

As a family of nature lovers, it was a tough thing to digest. No long morning walks? No hikes and road trips? And for how long? We were indeed grateful for being alive and fit during a worldwide calamity but something just didn’t feel right. The answer was right inside the house. We had always had a few potted plants on the terrace. To that, my grandfather added a few more hanging pots and floral beauties. My mum helped me plant some veggies like coriander, chillies, and tomatoes. The terrace now seemed fuller, greener, and happier.
I have spent days on the swing reading and pondering over things, good and bad. With our little terrace garden, it almost felt like we let a little bit of outside seep into our home.
